ABOUT ME
Iman is a Michigan based artist self taught in the art of stained glass. In the fall of 2022, Iman completed a three month residency at the Burren College of Art off the west coast of Ireland where she received studio space and access to integral tools for creating stained glass artwork. This was her first time working with glass, and she spent her time in the Burren conducting independent research, exploring the landscape and allowing her inspiration to bloom. Much of her work from this period includes pressed flowers and plants foraged from the valley and mountains surrounding the school.
Now Iman creates stained glass artwork from her home studio in Ypsilanti and exhibits work all over Michigan. A focal study of this year is the “Journey into Bloom” collection depicting powerful women of color against stained glass landscapes that celebrate femme afrofuturism. This series is coupled with her collection of stained glass teaware that explores the relationship between time poverty and acts of self care and how they each contribute to self actualized prosperity.

“I like to use glass as a medium to make a kindred connection with nature as the viewer, just like the environment around them, thrives on the light the glass casts. The goal of my art is to instill a meditative state in the viewer and encourage them to simply stop, and absorb more light.”
“ I like to display pressed flora in my work as recollections of seasons and a reminder of what beauty becomes of our temporary existence.” All flora is collected from Michigan and hand pressed in house.
